A variety of Bible study
and educational opportunities are available for adults
at the First Presbyterian Church of Elko.
Adult
Sunday School
During the Sunday School hour starting at 9 a.m.,
Bible 101 is led by Mike Jones and Judy Bondo in the Family
Ministry office. This group began at the beginning of the Old
Testament to read the Bible through together from
beginning to end. The members of this group take turns
reading passages, and then the group discusses what has
been read and asks questions. Group members use a
variety of study resources to seek answers to these
questions for the benefit of the group. Most members use
the New International Version of the Bible, but other
versions are also represented. Bibles are available for those who have not brought their own. For more
information about Bible 101, contact Mike Jones at
(775) 738-5995.
The church also offers a variety
of single- and multi-session Christian Roundtable
programs for adults during the Sunday School hour in the
church Parlor. These
sessions typically feature a video presentation followed
by discussion. For information about upcoming
Christian Round Table programs, click
here.
Adults often attend Christian Roundtable or other
adult Sunday School sessions
that interest them and attend Bible 101 sessions on
other Sundays. There is no pressure to attend Bible 101
exclusively or regularly, nor does the format of any
adult Sunday School sessions require
attendance at previous sessions to gain insights and
information from the current session.
Adults and teens
are
invited to attend any of these educational offerings as
frequently as their personal schedules and interests
permit.
Bible Study
Morning Bible Study is currently being held every
Wednesday at 9:30 am to 10:30 am in Julie Blessing’s
office at the church. In fall 2008, the group begin
a new study by Rev. Dave Peterson titled “The
Pursuit of Happy-ness.” Everyone is welcome.
Searchers
Are you searching for something, but you aren't sure
what it is? Are you searching for faith, Christian
fellowship, friendship, church family, fortitude, focus,
and fulfillment in your life? If so, you are invited to
join Searchers, a Bible study group that meets from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays in the church
parlor. This group formed in December 2005 to search for
that "something more" that is missing from our lives
today. By searching for God, the group believes you can
find more than you ever dreamed.
The group started in 2005 by studying Rick Warren's The
Purpose Driven Life, a 40-day spiritual journey. It
has since moved into the study of other books and venues
for Bible exploration.
The group also has prayer partners and fellowship time,
and it is seeking a service project. Those interested in
joining the group are encouraged to contact Kathy Reyes
at
krlr586@peoplepc.com or (775) 738-6894 or Judi Boyce
at (775) 738-8242 or just come to a Sunday
meeting after the church service.
