The First Presbyterian Church of Elko is proud of its
music ministry. You are encouraged to participate in any
of the following groups.
Choir

The adult choir prepares and presents a variety of
music at church services. The choir typically practices
at the church at 7 p.m. on Thursday evenings and from
9:30-10 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Those of all
vocal abilities are heartily welcomed to the
choir. The ability to read music and count time is
appreciated, but not absolutely necessary. It is
helpful if you can carry a tune and sing on key. The
choir takes a break during the summer months. For more
information about the Choir's activities, contact the
Choir Director, Kathy Reyes
at
krlr586@peoplepc.com or (775) 738-6894.
Kids' Choir

The Kids' Choir
performs its 2005 Christmas Pageant.
The Kids' Choir provides an opportunity for
those in Kindergarten through grade 5 to learn fun songs
to sing at worship services. The choir typically
performs Christmas and spring musicals. "It's a fun way
to develop one's voice and participate in light drama,"
says Pastor Pat Mecham, the children's choir director.
The choir practices on Sundays at the church from
3:30-4:30 p.m., which is preceded by Kid's Club from
2:30-3:30 p.m., for a weekly fun afternoon for this
age group. Contact Pastor Pat at
PastorPat11616@frontiernet.net or (775) 738-3430 for
more information.
Youth Music
The Youth Choir is similar to the Kids' Choir,
but for those in grades 6-12. It practices from
2:30-3:30 p.m. on Sundays along with the church's Jazz Band,
which is open to anyone wishing to
learn to play jazz versions of songs. At least a
rudimentary ability to play an instrument is all that is
required to join the band and stretch one's musical
wings into simple jazz. The Youth Choir and Jazz Band
are led by Pastor Pat
who often joins in on his trumpet. Contact
Pastor Pat at
PastorPat11616@frontiernet.net or (775) 738-3430 for
more information.
Christian Minstrels
The Christian Minstrels is a group of singers and
musicians who perform gospel music together for various
audiences. Contact Kathy Reyes
at
krlr586@peoplepc.com or (775) 738-6894 for more
information.
Elko Handbells

The First Presbyterian Church of Elko is the proud
owner of three sets of handbells that are put to good
use by its various handbell groups. The Sunrise Ringers
usually meet three to five days a week in the fall at
6:30 a.m. They also attend a two-week handbell camp
together in June each year. Other combinations of
handbell ringers, such as Bells 2 and the Bell Tones,
can be assembled depending on the availability of
ringers.

Pat Tempel and
Toni Mendive often perform handbell duets.
The group is open to those in fourth grade or
older who can read and count music and commit to regular
rehearsal attendance. The handbell ringers present a
Christmas concert annually following "Christmas in the
Nighttime Sky." They also perform at the Nevada Youth
Training Center and six area elementary schools. They
present a spring concert if groups are rehearsing. "This
is a fun music experience that offers group bonding and
a rewarding outreach and community response," said Ann Nisbet, the group's leader. For more information,
