The First Presbyterian Church of Elko's chapter of
Presbyterian Women (PW) offers women a
variety of opportunities to become involved socially
and in study, service, and outreach projects. This
PW chapter is an umbrella organization for women's
ministries in this church. Two of the church's
PW groups,
Joy Circle and
Esther Circle, meet
monthly September through May. The
Hobby Group meets weekly.
All women are welcome to join any of these
groups, and many women belong to more than one of
them.
PW groups offer women an opportunity to study,
learn, have fun, and grow in their Christian life in
an intimate group setting. Members get to know each
other better, and as a result, lifetime friendships
are often formed.
Circle meetings typically include a devotional,
fellowship, a Bible lesson based on an article in
Presbyterian Women Horizons magazine, and refreshments.
Group members take turns presenting the meeting
components. A brief discussion of current
Presbyterian Women's mission projects is also
shared. It is not necessary to bring Bibles to
Circle
meetings, as all study materials are available
at the church. Each Circle is responsible for
periodically providing food for the church's Sunday
fellowship hour.
This chapter of Presbyterian Women also
organizes and hosts a
variety of annual events for the public and/or the
church family.
The church's Presbyterian Women Executive Board
meets at the church at 5 p.m. on the first Thursday
of each month. For more information about
Presbyterian Women and its various groups and
activities, contact Jan Petersen at
janpetersen@citlink.net or (775) 738-5668.
Joy Circle
This is the church's largest group of
Presbyterian Women. It meets at the church on the
second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. For more
information about Joy Circle, contact Ann Haglund at
aqhaglund@frontiernet.net or (775) 738-7072.
Esther Circle
This group meets
at the church on the second Thursday of each month
at 1:30 p.m. For more information about Esther
Circle, contact Julie Blessing at
jblessing@frontiernet.net or (775) 753-8529.
Hobby Group

Some of the 2006
Hobby Group members gather for a picture.
All women
interested in sewing, handcrafts, and mission
projects are welcome to attend
Hobby Group meetings in the church parlor every Tuesday
from
2-3 p.m. Group members use meeting time to work on
personal hobbies/crafts and/or a variety of group
mission and outreach projects . For example, the
group prepares bandages for relief workers, baby
blankets for newborns, and monthly dinner tray favors for
over 190 hospital patients, shut-ins, and assisted
living residents. On the
second Tuesday of each month, the Hobby Group meets
at a local restaurant at noon for a Dutch treat
lunch to celebrate members' birthdays. Then the
group goes
to the church to work on their various projects. For
more information about the Hobby Group, contact
Pat Tempel at
LPTempel@ctnis.com or (775) 738-2726.
